TN: Seppelt St Peters Grampians Shiraz 2006

G'day
I first tasted a St Peters when the 1999 was the wine of the night at an offline in Melbourne about 4 years ago. There were a couple of other St Peters vintages that night, and I took notice as a result.
In the meantime, I have been able to acquire a number of vintages from 2001 to 2014, and recently got a six pack of the 2006. Apparently a great vintage on the eastern side of Australia (and WA's last 'failure'), I've had a number of good reds from this vintage, especially after 7 or more years' bottle age. This was too good to pass up.
Purple red in colour. Lots of red and blue fruits on the nose, slight mocha, with some supporting vanillan oak. It's the palate that really works for me, though - tart raspberry, cranberry, a light lick of milk chocolate, prominent supporting acid over tight, well integrated tannins, and a very long finish. It's mouthwatering and slightly puckering at the same time.
It's definitely a medium bodied wine, but packed full of flavour and interest. Possibly no rush to drink this, based on previous vintages. I'm keen, however, to also look at some of the younger vintages I have (which is most if not all except the 2011).
Cheers
Allan
