G'day

Faber Wines is small winery in the Swan Valley. John Griffiths used to work at Houghton before establishing Faber (with his wife) 20 years ago, and is familiar with the concept of bringing in grapes from more appropriate areas; for example, Chardonnay from Ferguson Valley, and in this case, Cabernet from Frankland River. I've tried a couple of these before, but much younger vintages.

This is a cracker. At 9 years old, still deep purple in colour. A full nose with lots of blackcurrant, spicy oak, some dark chocolate, cinnamon, and tobacco - very rich and satisfying. The palate is better still - rich flavours flooding the palate, without overpowering it completely. Good supporting tannins without being too obvious, and a full and long finish.

Definitely a rich, full bodied wine, without being too heavy, and most definitely a varietal cabernet.

This bodes well for the small number of younger vintages in the cellar. I'm definitely a convert.

Cheers

Allan
