Scotty, know I should be more on the ball here, but not quite with you

I have missed the last 2 or so roadshows so looking forward to this one...I don't actually have a pink suit, but if you're in attendance I'll do my best to seek you out.
Cheers

Oh sorry just wondering whether you can taste, buy and collect on the spot or if you have to place an order.
AS with the cellar door festival some wineries will sell on the spot whereas others don't carry stock.
There I am with my nanna trolley ready to be loaded up like some sort of vagrant.

There was a tasting promo of SA wines on leigh/peel street a few years back.
Nothing to buy just an odd PR luring exercise to the regions. Plenty of tipsy folk ready to part with
their hard earned on the spot but no love.
They were never going to remember come satdee morning what it was they were sampling.

Scotty, believe you can order on the night.
A couple of years ago with Zema for example, they had order forms with very reasonable prices...I got talking to Nick Zema and he gave me an extra 10% off.
Most wineries will have order forms at their tables. I don't believe you can buy on the night, but certainly can order.

I went last year, somewhat enjoyed it but probably won't be going Friday: it was a great event tainted by a crappy venue, too dark, too crammed and too noisy in the main arena with shitty glassware and no cloakroom (a bit of an issue when it's cold and wet outside, but way too warm inside to keep on the extra clothes - the unused bar at the front was piled high with coats and clothes by event-goers, just as well the trust system seemed to work).

I know there were a fair number of complaints made on the night and after the event: the wineries said the XL5 glassware was supplied by the venue, some friends took along their own glasses (which may be a good idea for anyone going this year). To be honest I am a little surprised they went back to the Adelaide Zoo function centre again, maybe they have made some changes for the better?

I still miss the good old days when it was under the tents at the Norwood Hotel carpark on a Saturday: the 11am-5pm time was much more user friendly to be able to wander around and have a decent chat with the presenters (especially before lunch when there were a lot less people), and then catching up with a few of them for a cleansing ale at the pub after finishing, putting in the order form and loading up the taxi on the way out...

Cheers,
Ian

Gee Ian, that takes me back...went to a couple of those as well.
The one at the wine centre was good...bit worried now with your feedback from last year...fingers crossed.

Interesting that there is clearly some contractual arrangements with organisations and certain venues...I told TWE in no uncertain terms that having friends of the cellar door events in a room at the Hilton no bigger than a shoe box, and food running out after 30 minutes simply not good enough. Certainly won't be going to another one if they don't do something about it.
Previously this event was at Adelaide oval, the convention centre, much better venues.

Craig/Scotty/Ian et al,
Yes, most exhibitors at the Melb Roadshow had order forms. No stock there, but you could order stuff easy enough (as did grb2001 and myself  )
Venues are a bit of an issue atm, the last TWE tasting in Melb was at Como Hotel v average venue, this year's Roadshow was at the atrium at Fed Sq which was ok, just (previously Melb Town Hall, which was v good). Hard to find venues for say 200-300ppl
Enjoy it anyway.

The venue change was a point of conversation on the night in Melbourne. The town hall had double booked apparently and they had to scramble to find a new venue. The Atrium gets pretty squashy once it fills up so I'd certainly prefer the town hall. I would have liked better glassware as well. I was only there for about an hour and a quarter as I had another engagement to go to, but I tasted what I wanted. There were some pretty smart 2015 cabernets there.

I heard a couple of stories about why not the Town Hall. Double booking and/or doubling of price. Glassware was better at the Townhall, although I think the Coonawarra vignerons provided them one year, they were handing them out to punters as they were leaving, didn't want to take them back.

Dang it prob have to give this a miss. With the wynns BL cab getting all the plaudits I'd love to see how the other producers are travelling off the back of the 2015 vintage. A buddy gave me a 15 wynns BL cab as a belated bday gift so I may crack it to see what all the fuss is about. What I'm mostly going to miss about this event is seeing Craig in a pink suit.
