TN: Chateau Marquis de Terme 1996 (Margaux)

G'day

This 4th growth Bordeaux is a bland of cabernet sauvignon, merlot, petit verdot and cabernet franc. It's red purple with touches of brown at the rim. The nose is quite savoury - any detectable primary fruit has gone, and there's a good whiff of aromatic cigars, spices and violets. There's also the faintly perfumed traces of red and blue fruits, and, although these are well and truly developed, they add an interesting counterpoint to the cigars and spices.

The palate retains some acid and secondary fruit flavours. Tannins are so integrated now that they are barely detectable. Medium length and still a little weight to the palate.

It seems strange to describe a Bordeaux as 'delicate', but that is what this wine has become. There's a few things happening, but not very obtrusively, and I am surprisingly enjoying the combination.

I believe delicate is an appropriate descriptor for this wine and the Margaux wines in general. I've got a bit of this tucked away and it is more on the feminine end of the scale compared to the more muscular wines of Pauillac.
