Giaconda Pinot Noir 2015

Post by WAwineguy »

I've noticed that Giaconda now have a 2015 Pinot available via their website, although this was not part of the En Primeur release last year.

They don't seem to make it every year. Does anybody have any thoughts on this wine, or indeed past vintages of Giaconda Pinot? At $84 it's not particularly cheap, so I'm also wondering how people think it compares to other pricey Aussie pinot?

Cheers!

The only Pinot I've tried from Beechworth is the 2010 Giaconda and also the Savaterre of the same vintage. They were both good, but nothing special. Like the Giaconda, the Savaterre is also priced at the top end.

I don't think Beechworth has the right climate to consistently make top-end Pinot. Undoubtedly there's exceptions in certain vintages. For $84 I'd expect a top-end wine to rival the best from the Mornington Peninsula or Yarra Valley. I know I've only tried 2 bottles of Beechworth Pinot before and I shouldn't generalise based on that, but I'm not convinced. I'd love to be proved wrong!

I've only had the 2008 Giaconda Pinot from magnum relatively recently and it was very good, but yeah I'm not sure I'd be ponying up $84 for a bottle on release. There are some good beechworth pinots but I don't see them being $80 plus wines.

I recall the Giaconda simple ok strawberry style over the years
Memory tells me 2010 was a Yarra / Beechworth blend
Tad oaky

I would spend elsewhere
