2006 Heartland Shiraz, Langhorne Creek & Limestone Coast (screwcap): 14.5% alc. Medium to dark red. Big, earthy nose with no sign of the rubbery/stinky characters that plagued the wine on opening in its youth, black cherries and liquorice, eucalypt, smoked meats and menthol, more obvious toasted/camphor oak with breathing. The medium-weight palate isn’t as attractive with green tea/slightly bitter tannins and obvious minty alcohol on the hot finish. Age is not exactly being kind enough to this wine, I can’t see it improving remarkably from here.
