1996 Domaine Prieur Brunet 1er Cru Santenay, Clos Rousseau (cork): 13.5% alc. Medium to dark yellow. Rich and buttery nose, lemon merangue, smoky French vanilla, a touch of orange peel, white chocolate, hazelnut, and wool carpet, it’s in an absolutely gorgeous phase at 21 years of age. The palate’s fat and yet still has that typical 1996 vintage burst of fresh acidity mid-palate that softens through to the long, mineraly finish, with lingering golden apple and soft smoke characters. Good bottles of this have been sublime and dare I say it, Chablis-killers: this one, my last, is absolutely brilliant!
Cheers,
Ian
