1996 Domaine Prieur-Brunet 1er Cru Meursault, Les Charmes (cork): 13.5% alc. Dark gold. Rich, developed nose with Grand Marnier and lemon rind, French vanilla, hazelnut, white chocolate and Black Sambuca liqueur. The acidity has notably softened a little in the last four years, it still has a healthy punch mid-palate to the back palate but it is much more in a supporting role; the result is a round, rich palate with a tingly finish and a touch of bacon fat and fennel on the tail. It’s a lovely wine right now, especially paired with lemon pepper Tasmanian salmon and wedges coated in paprika, but it doesn’t quite have the same majesty of their freaky 1996 1er Cru Santenay Clos Rosseau.
