sorry to break it to you guys, but there are supermarkets in the big cities that have literally WALLS of Australian brands you (and I ) have never heard of, Coastel Pearl has been around for ages, the wine comes from the Shandong Peninsula, and is basically undrinkable. The Aus government should be thrilled, because with the FTA coming in, the decent stuff will be priced the same as this stuff, and will sell like hot cakes.
and when I say walls, my local "European" supermarket has more than 200 Aussie wines I've never heard of, and at least 200 French wines that also are undoubtedly Chinese plonk with a French label.

happens here too..... do you remember the McDonalds ad stating their meat is 100% Australian beef? You might also remember that Maccas had a company in Argentina called "The Australian Beef Company", hence the fine they eventually got

I never buy wine in China. BYO from HKG. As aircrew I asked one of the immigration Generals how much wine I could bring in. He said three bottles. I thanked him and said I'd be a bit dusty for the next day's flight and settled for one bottle ( shared with my co-pilot )

China is a huge clean skin market or the wine comes in via huge military like fuel bladders and gets bottled in China.

You can't defend it felix, China is a dodgy place.
