Rory, I would too, but, realistically, what are you planning to open on the day? My partner's birthday is also in March and I will have to start thinking about what to serve at dinner.

Mahmoud.

Prices tend to escalate in the 1-2 years before the *decaversary, so already likely to be higher than 2 years ago. Tough vintage to chase, but if you do want something from that year, don't discount calvados or Armagnac as more reliable performers (perhaps more reliable than the Chevy!).

Ian

* I had to check, and yes apparently such a word does exist.

I'm a 67, so facing the same issues. And 67 wasn't crash hot in too many places.

But the d'yquem will be obligatory I guess. :)

Hope you don't mind the plug, but I am selling a 1967 Giordano Giovanni Barbaresco at auction in the next few weeks. Keep a look out if you are interested.

I know your tastes lean to Europe Wizz, but Grange 67 is very good if you get a friendly cork. Mind for that money there are plenty of options if you are prepared to ignore the vintage a bit. Conceived in 66 perhaps? First steps at 70? First kiss in 82??? Mmmmm Bordeaux.

Not much luck being born in 57 sorry! 55 is close enough though.

I suspect the 96s will surge in view of 21st's this year

True - and what little i have collected so far is European. They are probably all shot, so I'm not going too hard. I gather 67 Northern Italy was OK, and I now have a 67 d'yquem in good nick, ex UK.

I looked at the Penfolds special bin as well (cant remember which Bin No from 67), but it was even more eyewateringly expensive than the d'yquem!

I've actually has a couple of '57 Wynns reds, which weren't too shabby (wife and brother's birth years well)

Would also second the Penfolds Bin 7 if you are a '67. Trouble is I bought a Bin 7 at auction quite some years ago for not much, no more than a couple of hunge perhaps. Now, the prices are stratospheric

67 is a good vintage for Barolo/Barbaresco. Always a risk associated with 60 year old wine, but a risk that can be very rewarding.
