TN: 2014 Tim Smith Old Vine Grenache

This is a beautiful wine: balanced, refined, interesting. Discussed Grenache options with Alex (thanks mate!) about at a certain Melbourne store and walked away with this. With some air the nose is all about a light, bright blackberry compote. The palate is medium-bodied savoury black and to a lesser extent red berries. The defining feature, however, is the mouthfeel which is plush, moreish and complex. I could drink this all night!

Cheers

Michael

PS The Samuel's Gorge Tempranillo my colleague bought at the same time was seriously good gear also.

A little off topic but I reckon the Tim Smith MGS is excellent too!

Second vote for Tim's MGS.

The 2012 is beautifully placed now, just passed the halfway mark on a 6 pack, each one incrementally better.

Go Tim, go!

Had a tasting with Tim in his lab room in the Barossa a few months ago at the last MWS ADL Hills/Barossa junket, some really good wines. Also through the MGS was great, here are my brief notes from that tasting

2014 Barossa Mataro Grenache Shiraz
Garnet red some aromatics, slightly dusty aroma, beautiful full fruit month feel tannin structure, medium bodied, complexity of red and black fruits
