As I opened a 2004 on the weekend, I thought it would be prudent to check out on of my remaining 2005s (albeit, the 2004 was under cork, and all subsequent vintages are under screwcap). As always, decanted and aerated before service.
95% Merlot, 5% CS (and a mystery dollop of Petit Verdot, apparently). Purple in colour, red rim only. Lightly perfumed, plum and violets, and slight leather and developed notes. A touch of blackcurrant as well.
It's happening more on the palate - there's grippy and drying tannins, savoury notes alongside ripe plum and darker fruits. It's mostly middle palate, with acid around the outside of the tongue, and a medium finish.
Pretty good for a 10 year old, and in much better nick than the 2004. Screwcap?
Cheers
Allan

Wine, women and song. Ideally, you can experience all three at once.
