Tyrrells 2016 white release

2016 Tyrrell's Vat 1 Semillon - no nose, very shy/austere. Hints of flinty lime poking through and silty rocks. A zing if saliva inducing sourness. Depth and power on the palate. Bloody good 94

2016 Tyrrell's Belford Semillon - perfumed white flowers, a splash of sugary lemon sherbet, gentle, slippery palate with a loooong finish. Cracker. Bought. 94

2016 Tyrrell's HVD Semillon - lime and peach on the nose with lanolin. Talc and soapy with a hit of white flowers. Primary. Light weight 92

2016 Tyrrell's Steven Semillon - the most aromatic of the sems. Limey pineapple, wet rocks, lift and lean palate feel with a grassy/waxy note, a hit of passion fruit and zingy acid 91

2016 Tyrrell's Vat 63 Chardonnay/Semillon - about a 75/25 blend. Toasty lemon oak, green peach, wee, grassy almonds with a splash of matchstick. Interesting 91

2016 Tyrrell's Vat 47 Chardonnay - not bottled as yet. Barrel sample bottled at 12 pm today (tasting at 4). Wow. Intense cashew oak, somewhat soapy, unripe nectarine, decent enough finish. Needs some time to sort itself out. 90

Nice work. I got to go to the 6pm session and mostly align with your comments - didn't really like the Vat63 and I was a little less enthusiastic about the Belford (still liked it though) but otherwise spot on.

Cam, I would say the Vat1 was a smidge ahead of the Belford, but the taut ungiving nose was really something that was a surprise given the mouthfeel and palate weight. Belford being somewhat more giving on the nose with a great mouthfeel and acid line. Could probably split them, but Vat 1 at double the price, I think the Belford will certainly shine for some time.
