This tasting offers members and potential members a chance to monitor the evolution of Clos de Lambrays wines post-1998, when the domaine is regarded as having made a significant breakthrough in quality. We offer 2 older vintages to so illustrate how the wine has cone on since Thierry Brouin’s first vintage in charge (1979).
Overleaf you can read about the history of the domaine, as recounted by Allen Meadows, and can see his TNs for the more recent vintages.

Once again we will have an excellent menu from executive chef, Paul McLoughlin.

Lovely tasting. If anyone has interest in detailed notes or scores of any vintages let me know and I'll post. Plenty left over to take home so I have lots of 2009 for the next few days which will give me more time to get a feel for the LVMH "polish".

1979- Weary but in there. 89pts

1989- Wonderful, mature Burgundy. 93pts

1998- Tight but expressing a glory. WOTN for me . 94pts

2003- Showy but very nice. 93pts

2007- Obviously the 2007 in this blind line-up but nice just lacking intensity. 92pts

2008- Stem influence had their detractors and supporters. Nice and classical. 93pts+

2000- Vegetal and underbrush. Pleasant. 90pts

1999- Simple and austere. First pass I picked up a palate impurity but nobody decried taint here- but perhaps? 86pts

2009- Not impressed but could be shutdown. 90pts +

2002- Overdeveloped. 88pts

2001- Profound Burgundy. 94pts+

2005- CORKED

Dinner and lingering wines-

Holly Molly the rose a shocker!

The magnum of 2003 had sublime aromatics and delivered good palate gratification with consideration to the vintage. 93pts

The 2008 versus 2009. The 2008 superb and the 2009 had an underlying power that is impressive and hopefully the wine shutdown.

Thanks for the TNs. Insightful.
I'm fearful as to future prices, following the recent sale of the price for an extraordinary sum.
Currently in Birgundy & growers are stunned.
Recently tried the '98. I'm not keen on this vintage overall. In line with your comments, it remains backward - one of less than a handful o 98s (red or white burgundy) I've enjoyed. . I had '99 & '02 during past couple+ years. Both showed well but I'm in no rush to open the next bottle.

I think that describes 2008
they are very angular and just so not ready to consume

Actually the 2008 was far more approachable than the 2009 which under-performed. But it was better received by the less fazed Burgundy drinkers than the Burgundy obsessors.

Ironically I threw out the group notes yesterday before re-sparked interest in this thread.
