2014 Pensilva Estate Shiraz, McLaren Vale (screwcap): 14% alc. The back label says produced for Busby Fine Wines, meaning this is a virtual label for the Westfarmers/Coles juggernaut. Medium to very dark red/purple. Quite ripe and toasty nose with a hint of vanilla, quite spicy and smoky which I would think suggest either heavily toasted French oak influences and/or perhaps some residual sulphur. The palate is just over medium-weight with blackcurrant and blackberry, dried oregano and spicy/graphite oak, finishing minty with chalky tannins. It’s ok, nothing more, nothing less.
Cheers,
Ian
