Streicker Ironstone Cabernet Sauvignon 2009

Post by Waiters Friend »

G'day

At the time I purchased this wine, the Streicker family had recently purchased Cap Clairault in Margaret River. These days, the two labels sit together on the combined website. I last had a bottle of this probably 2-3 years ago, and I was not overwhelmed.

The 2009 is quite dark purple in colour. The nose is starting to develop, with olive tapenade, a sniff of tobacco, and savoury oak. Blackcurrant is accompanied by a small amount of licorice, violets, and dark berries. The palate continues the berry theme, with good supporting tannins (chewy and mouth puckering) and a medium to long finish.

Much better today than last time I tried this. I will leave the last bottle another year or two and see how it develops further.

Cheers
Allan
Wine, women and song. Ideally, you can experience all three at once.
