G'day
I've not had a lot of experience with GSM or similar blends, and especially unoaked ones. I am a fan however of Teusner's Avatar, which is an oaked similar blend.
The Joshua is a blend of Grenache, Mataro and Shiraz. It's got the juiciness that comes from the Grenache, almost jube-like. There's a little blueberry on the nose, along with some cinnamon and clove. The palate is full of fresh fruit, plum, cherry and blueberry (again). It has a little tannic grip (presumably from skin contact), and is flavourful, and surprisingly mouthfilling. Short on the finish, though.
It's an interesting exercise for me - I can appreciate what Teusner is trying to achieve with this wine, and I imagine this would be a popular with recent converts to red wine, as well as those looking for a red to go with tapas style and Mediterranean cuisine. Not my usual preferred style, but perhaps something I could get used to. In the meantime, the Avatar (with a few years on it) suits me just fine.
Cheers
Allan

Wine, women and song. Ideally, you can experience all three at once.

Agree with you on this. Much like Torbreck's Cuvee Juveniles and Steading the oak adds a lot more complexity. Love the Avatar with a few years on it as you say.
