TN: 1998 Yalumba Barossa Shiraz

1998 Yalumba Barossa Shiraz, Barossa Valley (cork): 14.5% alc. Medium to darkish garnet. Eight years after my previous bottle and this is still in remarkably good condition, sweet, smoky and oily in typical Barossa fashion, raspberries, dark chocolate, vanilla and musk with just a whiff of celery greens, menthol and ash. The palate is just over medium-weight, just as sweet, complex and attractive with a touch of liquorice, the tannins have softened and become silky through the long, elegant finish. This was an excellent bottle, kicking goals well beyond the conservative drink by 2005 recommendation on the back label.
