2005 Ngeringa J.E. Pinot Noir, Adelaide Hills (screwcap): 13% alc. Murky, light to medium garnet/brick. Savoury, earthy and sweet, fully developed and spicy with soy, umami, five-spice and anise now ahead of the fading strawberry fruit. The palate is long and lean, quite big for a Pinot with more sous bois, leather and coffee characters with stronger strawberry fruit, finishing with fine, grippy tannins. Last year Erinn Klein suggested it was time I gave this wine another look, and his advice was spot-on, I can’t see it improving from here.
Cheers,
Ian
