Chateau Brane Cantenac (Bordeaux) 2009

Post by Waiters Friend »

Also at Must Wine Bar today for lunch. This is a wine that I have enjoyed on rare previous occasions, but not this young.

Decanted an hour before service. Crimson in colour. A typically Cabernet dominant nose which reminded us of Margaret River initially, including a waft of eucalypt. It opened up over a further hour or so in the glass, and offered tobacco, blackberry, slightly charry oak, some spice in the nutmeg and smoked paprika spectrum. There's also a little raspberry in the mix.

The palate is quite tannic, with prominent acid, and a mix of dark fruits. Texturally, there's some richness countered by the acid. It's still very youthful, and I reckon another 10 years will see it peak. The structure is definitely there.

Cheers

Wine, women and song. Ideally, you can experience all three at once.
