French Tiny Production Wines:

Please join us for a “ tour de France” of small gems, that will take us across 5 of the main French wine producing regions. All the wines that we will have for the tasting and the dinner are produced in less than 500 cases per year, some in considerably smaller quantities... This should be a rare opportunity to taste some iconic producers in some of their best expressions… the line-up will include no less than 5 Grand Crus, 4 Premier Crus, some very special Cuvées and vintages going back to the 1970s… as well as a Robert Parker 100 pointer for good measure… a chance not to be missed !!!

Fantastic tasting, a lot of fun with a great theme! Just my top three gents. Any notes required for others let me know.

Beaucastel stood out with its Top Gun cuvees. A mention for Graillot and his Crozes Hermitage la Guiraude which I put in my cellar on occasion- very well made CH looking good at 10 years + and avoids the tartness of the appellation.


Roussanne VV, Chateauneuf-du-Pape Blanc, Château de Beaucastel- Obvious who this was even though blind. Masterful despite the vintage which displayed a faster evolution. Beeswax, honeysuckle and lanolin throughout- deeper unevolved yellow fruits the base. Mellow yet rich in flavor, full and complete- lovely wine.

Hommage à Jacques Perrin, Chateauneuf-du-Pape, Château de Beaucastel, 1999 I bought this cuvee every year up til 2007 when it wasn't offered by Berry Brothers. So much for loyalty you tossers. Haven't bought the wine since.

Vibrant and rich, the fruit is so deep yet is is an amalgam of wonderous dark fruits and spice showing up in intriguing shades. Still evolving and the palate concentration reflects the aromatics. A little jaggered on the finish though time will settle.

Corton Grand Cru les Perrières, Domaine de la Maison Romane, 2001- Interesting yarn the winemaker ploughs DRC with his horse and I missed the rest of the connection which may have involved some of DRC's grapes !

Lovely sweet red fruits, mulch, earth and leather. Long wine delivers the aromatics in the flavor profile with some minerality/salinity terroir interest.

Nice tasting, I'm surprised that the Beaucastel Perrin is in such small supply. I see it around the traps for about $600+ I think, never realised it was only a 420 case production.

Never been disappointed with the Hommage à Jacques Perrin and despite being a regular 100 Parker pointer it doesn't give up a classical charm in its hedonism. The de la Mordorée was obvious - I liked it but it was a far more typical Parker style of turbo-charged CNP.

The white Beaucastel cuvee is stunning and I wish I'd bought more over the years. Price has crept up whereas a few years ago I'm sure it was around the 100 USD mark and the perfect white burgundy foil i.e.: age worthy and consistent in presenting a wine of interest whilst only losing about 5% of your case and not 30% to faults by year 10 +
