Deep cherry red.
The smells? Delicate and veiled: white pepper and herbs (Tomato leaf is good descriptor too).
The palate starts shy as well and takes a while to show, but when it does its dead sexy! Cherry, forest berries, white pepper and a savoury character, fine tannins and finishes long. Feminine and silky.
Excellent.
cheers

Andrew,
I have been meaning to try one for ages, when do you think it will be in its peak drinking window?

This style I find really difficult to pick drinking windows, where things are all elegant and subtle. I'm liking it right now, its balanced and should hold for another 5, but I cant really tell if it will improve any.

Torb,
I've tried it a few times in the last year or so. Quite a sexy wine, but more so when it has been given a good decant. Had it in a blind line-up with 91 HOG, 95 Houghton Show res, 2000 Cullen, and 98 St Peters and most thought it the wine of the night. I liked the HOG but it was a close third for me. It really opened up after a couple of hours, plenty of time to go though as it is still basically in its primary state.
Cheers

Hi Grant,
In a line up like that to be the WOTN, it must be impressive. I will leave them in the cellar.

The other time i tasted this was in a line up of shiraz in the $30 to $40 range. To my surprise, it wasnt the bigger Barossa/McLaren wines that showed best, it was the 98 Bannockburn and the 01 Yering Station (albeit at $55 or so!),
cheers
