Yet to see this topic so can I assume we have all made a news year's resolution to ease up on the purchases?
I had that idea for a fleeting moment until I buckled (yet again) and ended up with
6 x woodlands cab sav Benjamin

No buying in Jan for me, just too hot and worried the wine will get cooked in the delivery van. Probs same for Feb.

the line up is massively daunting. The spittoon will be getting a workout if I'm gonna survive.

Recently bought a few bottles of expense Euro wines (>$100 per bottle). Despite asking the retailer not to ship until cooler weather (and the retailer happily agreeing) they decided to unilaterally ship it to me during a week in which Melbourne had 40+ weather.

Havent bought much in the past couple of months, but couldnt resist
2004 Trevor Jones Wild Witch Dry Grown Reserve Shiraz
2005 Kalleske Johann Georg Old Vine Shiraz
2012 Peter Lehmann The Futures Shiraz
2 * 1988 Wynns John Riddoch - I took a punt as it was half the price of the current JR and having a search of this forum...the 88 was some peoples wine of the year recently.
3 * 2002 Trevor Jones Wild Witch Dry Grown Reserve Shiraz Magnums - such a good wine for the $$

A handful of 60s 70s 80s Northern Piemonte reds
A 1998 Roda I Rioja
1974 & 2x 1998 Barolo
2013 Fumin
2004 Caluso Passito
2003 Etna Red
& a 1968 Chianti
Which was decently 'on track' of a few wines I posted that I wanted to buy in 2016 in a previous post here. I'm aiming to try to stick to that buying plan, ensuring my focus diverts away from more current vintage Barolo & Barbaresco, which I normally struggle to resist.

Rossco, a punt worth taking on the 88 JR, have had half a dozen of these over the journey and still don't think they have peaked...88 is a bit of a sleeper of a year for this wine, reminds me a little of the 99.
As I have brought my last retail purchases of JR, I will be back filling on these earlier vintages.
Cheers
Craig

I bought £2000 worth of quaffers below from the amazing UK sales. A bunch of friends do similar so we mix and match and diversify. It works very well. Rhone still out of fashion. This is where the bargains were. Any one else in HKG reading please get involved!
I'm tossing up on a six pack of Giacosa Asili Risrva 2011 which though lost in release amongst the Burgundy EP campaign seems to have inflated in price significantly and I may be better back-filling.
The Fleurs da Mai is now an annual buy- - the vineyards fall just outside of Cote Rotie proper so its $20 Cote Rotie of sorts. Beautiful quaffing!!
12 x 2011 St Joseph Blanc, Le Lombard, Domaine Yves Cuilleron
12 x 2012 St Joseph Blanc, Domaine Pierre Gaillard
12 x 2009 Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Les Hautes Brusquières, Domaine Charbonnière
12 x 2012 Condrieu, Domaine Pierre Gaillard
12 x 2010 St Joseph, Les Pierres, Domaine Pierre Gaillard
12 x 2011 St Péray, Les Cerfs, Domaine Yves Cuilleron
12 x 2010 St Joseph, Clos de Cuminaille, Domaine Pierre Gaillard
12 x 2013 St Péray, Les Potiers, Domaine Yves Cuilleron
12 x 2013 Fleurs de Mai, Vin de Pays, Domaine Georges Vernay
12 x 2012 Fleurs de Mai, Vin de Pays, Domaine Georges Vernay
12 x 2012 Crozes-Hermitage, Maison Nicolas Perrin
12 x 2010 Côte-Rôtie, Domaine Pierre Gaillard
12 x 2013 Langhe Chardonnay, Conzia di F. Fabiani, Luzi-Donadei, Piedmont
12 x 2012 L'Oustalet Organic Blanc, Famille Perrin ( Beaucastel and $4 Aussie a bottle )
12 x 2013 Côtes du Rhône, Brézème, Eric Texier

With the prices of back vintages JR, it would seem crazy to buy current retail.
I guess the risk is storage/provenance/condition is basically unknown, but the reality that I have found very few auction
bottles to be bad/off/thrown away.....lets hope I dont Jinx myself with this purchase!

Getting a new kitchen put in, so this month is going to have no wine added to the cellar.
Have to save for the 2002 Krug next month anyway...

12x2009 Lake Breeze Bernoota - just wrong at $18. Punches way above it's weight.

Nice buying!

Some brave/foolish gambles in there, but I do still appreciate wines on the downslope, so hopefully most still have something to say, and feeling greedy I hope one or two shine.
Barolo: 2 x 1998 Bricco delle Viole (Vajra) and 1974 Cavallotto Bricco Boschis
1974 Travaglini Gattinara and Berteletti Gattinara
1964 Donnaz (Rosotto - who a forumite on a US forum spoke well of)
1983 Sella Bramaterra

Yes I'd agree that JR has always seemed substantial enough to cope with a little mistreatment, but also less likely (than Grange & champagne say) to be bought by someone who doesn't understand the perils of bad storage. JR, in my mind at least, has always been one to cellar and if you really want to drink on the fruit, there are many better options.

After trying a bottle of 2014 Neudorf Moutere chardonnay I picked up a couple more. This wine achieved some notoriety (or status) as Kiwi critic Bob Campbell's first 100 point NZ wine. Absolute BS as these ratings usually are for young wines but still very good in style and for my palate better than any of the Aussie options in the same price range.

Yes if you mix and match with a few guys you have a wonderful mix of wines. This is the best way to quaff in HKG and the most expensive wines are the $100 a bottle Cote Rotie magnums.

They will store them for 9 quid per case pa (in the UK). Then you need to sweet talk a tourist into bringing them back for you
