Thanks Mike Hawkins! I realise this can be expensive but hopefully with some advice from you guys I won't buy any bad wine

good quaffer. fairly bright fruits. no face attacking tannins for a cheap drop.
thru mate at a price i couldn't really refuse.

Arrived yesterday / today

A boys weekend in the hunter valley saw me get a few wineries in and some purchases.

4 x 2014 Meerea Park Hell Hole Shiraz
4 x 2014 Meerea Park Indie Shiraz / Pinot
3 x 2014 Meerea Park Terracotta
4 x 2014 Meerea Park Aunts Shiraz
4 x 2013 Petersons Back Block Shiraz

Garth Eather was at Meerea Park and he opened a 2014 Black which had just had the labels put on it a couple of days ago. Also tried the 2011 - both serious wines but getting too much out of my league for regular purchases

Stopped at Brokenwood with my brother who is a member and went through the range - some great stuff their Indigo Shiraz and Four Winds were excellent and got to try 14 Graveyard out of the Barrel. Will curb my purchases until their wine lunch at Bathers at the end of November.

Peterson's had a lot of great wines to. Just trying to curb my spending. Only regret was not stopping at Lakes Folly as we had to get moving.

And to top it off the snakes are out everywhere up there at the moment. Keep your eyes peeled!

We all make purchases we regret on occasion that's all a part of the learning curve. I certainly have some in my cellar that I think to myself, why did i buy that?

One I probably won't regret:
A single bottle of 2012 Moss Wood Cabernet. I'll let you know how it's drinking in 2032 or so.

Oh, forgot this one. A gift from my lovely wife.

Very good Catchnrelease. It's a 65/35 split in favour of the Shiraz and is predominantly shiraz nose at this point. The backend you get the pinot and fills out the palate. Personally I think still young and really needs a few more years in bottle before showing its best where I think the Pinot will come through once the Shiraz settles down

Seems quite popular on here. Although it's definitely one of the best domestic tempranillos I've tasted, the scores for the 2013 were much higher. I'm curious as to its popularity. Have people tasted it before? Bought on the strength of the 2013. Its certainly not your average Aussie red....

Mayford's been an under-distributed cult wine for the last 6 or 7 years. I decided to head out to their annual cellar door tastings to make up my own mind, then the 97 points on WF appeared, and the horses were off...

I found this year's model an improvement on last year, but that said, the 2013 won't be peaking for a while. I'm about to head down and collect my 2014s from the PO, might have another look at it this weekend. The secret weapon at Mayford though remains their chardonnay.

Just been given my 2013 Fourrier allocation. Includes the Gevrey VV, Cherbaudes, Moines, Goulots, Griotte and CSJ.

Thanks VC. Interesting. There are lots of top chardonnays in Australia, though, but few good Sangioveses. I much prefer the 2014 to the 2013. But if you buy based on points, you'd be backing up the truck for the latter. Best taste a bottle before buying by the dozen! Points? Pah!

Points get people so darned jiggy, never ceases to amaze me. Was very happy this year to have the Serrat SV arrive prior to the points and prizes being doled out based simple on friendly advice. And really, of the Serrat wines, I found the PN to be the standout. Being perpetually out of synch with prevailing scores does make for an easier life!

6 x Giacosa Barolo Riserva Rocche Falleto 2007

I tasted these with Bruno Giacosa and promised myself I would get all the 2007's as it's a birth year vintage for my child and if you love Piedmont, Bruno is the one of the remaining winemaker living-legends. Expensive but the sentimental value makes it worthwhile.

big tick to the Aussie importer (Gavin does not import these, so I think that is ok) as the prices were pretty much the same (or in one case, cheaper!!) than the duty-free HK importer (who does, recently, like to gouge). Only difference is the HK guy had a wider range on allocation. That being said, my ordering of Fourrier over the years has been patchy in Australia, and i reckon I am low down in the queue.
I guess the Aussie importer has a little advantage, being the father-in-law

Had a Gevrey Chambertin villages in HK last week, ripping wine and I did not detect the shrill acidity that so many 13's are supposed to carry. Of course, however, my sample of 13 Burgundy is minuscule thus far.

As you probably already know, the Griotte sells for North of $1200 up here, and the CSJ north of $700. (I never sell wine, and never will, but I suspect there may a bit of these "appearing" on the secondary Aussie market in the near future!!!)

Some smart money on those earlier red label Giacosas. I'd give Burgundy a pass for a month and stock up.
