Hi all,

Recently found out I'm being sent over to Manila for work - any worthwhile wine stores/experiences worth taking in while I'm there?

Thanks in advance!

Hit this guy up, he is a regular poster on Wine Berserkers and sounds like a really nice bloke (and drinks some fantastic wines). He might be able to offer some good insights.

I spend a lot of time in MNL and the restaurants can be pretty good considering. Wine is frightfully expensive so bring a six pack with you as airport customs don't xray bags inbound. Corkage is negotiable and cheap.

A few hundred aussie gets you a return ticket to HKG where you replenish wine supplies and dine in Michelin restaurants and buy cheap wine.

Mark Gifford, co-owner of blue poles vineyard in WA funds his vineyard through his day job as a geologist and spends a great deal of his working year in the Philippines.

The website of the vineyard is http://www.bluepolesvineyard.com.au

Mark also has a twitter feed (link on the webpage). I imagine if you contact him directly he would only be too glad to advise. I’ve not had dealings with him directly but others who have, and his own twitter feed, indicate he is both generous and engaging. And Blue Poles makes some exceptional wine - very different from the typical Margaret River.

Terry's used to have a fairly decent range of Spanish take-away liquor. There are a number of Terry's outlets. round Makati, etc.
I found a very fancy store with lots of glass walled wine rooms all temperature controlled and full of premium French/Italian wines when I was last there. I've been trying to find it online but might need to ask some friends in Phils if they remember the name. It's in Makati, I think.
