Hi everyone,

I hope we are all doing well - I haven't really fulfilled my promise of being more active, so I thought I'd try and force myself back by organising an offline.

Seeing as last time was 'sell a kidney', I thought it might be an idea to have a reverse theme: Your favourite bargain wine. By bargain I don't mean yellow tail or Banrock Station White Shiraz, but rather a wine that you think has a very good awesomeness to cost ratio. It could be a $50 wine, a $150 stunner, or a $25 quaffer, but the idea is for it to be the best value wine you think is worthy of the Auswine crowd.

Now, I may be shouted down on the theme, which is fine, but it would be good to have an offline before Fringe madness kicks in late next month.

Anyone interested?

Hi I'm interested I've a few weeks off in March and plan to do a wine run to Oz. Be great to do something in ADL.

Id be keen and the theme suits me fine..
just hope the dates suit as I've got a bit going on in feb/march.
It may fall after the cellar door festival so that might help in the selection process.

I am a novice and never been to one of these, but would be keen pending dates..

It is also highly likely I will be in Adelaide around March 25 and would be delighted to join in an offline. It's been a couple of years .......

I'm interested, although whatever date it happens to be will determine if I can make it.

If we are going down the potential "budget" wine theme, I suggest the food should likewise be reasonably priced with low or even no corkage - that probably will likely lead to somewhere in Chinatown again, one of the Chows, Park Lok or ba guo bu yi, but with the potential minefield of a lot of cheap bottles appearing it makes the most sense. That or we do our own catering, either a BBQ or BYO picnic at a centrally located public park that is not a dry zone (eg. Richards Park or Tusmore Park) or maybe at someone's place if they have a big enough space to accomodate such a thing.

After a long absence, I could be interested, pending timing

Love the idea of an offline picnic/BBQ in March when our guests are in town! Could our interstate friends let me know exact availability so we can coordinate?

I'm likely to be around 24-27th March, if this fits in with the general plans. Night time only for me, however - it is a business trip, allegedly

I'd be earlier than that and can't confirm anything for a few weeks.

"Best Value" open ended. I'd love to show a bottle of Condrieu and a bottle of Cote Rotie which combined cost the same as a bottle of Mt Edelsone. I'm not slagging off Mt Ed, it is world class wine, but the Condrieu one of the finest in the appellation and the Cote Rotie smart.

Okay - let's get organising here.

How does post-Fringe sound? Like 22nd of March BBQ lunch at Richard's Park?

I'm in ADL in a few weeks but my schedule has tightened up. Won't be able to make those dates unfortunately as I can compete very well in a best value offline coming from a no duty country.

I'm in town later that week and, as posted earlier, looking to spend the weekend 27-29 in a wine region. However, I am willing to stay in Adelaide on Friday 27th if an offline happens to coincide.

22nd march works for me as I'll be in Barossa following weekend.
I had considered bringing a 2008 Greenock Creek Alices Shiraz.
Not sure about 'best' value but i think it's pretty good value for about $30 from the CD/mailer.
Probably a good theme for my first offline attendance.

I may struggle to make the 22nd - I get out of hospital the 17th, I may be right to go by then although the 27th would be a safer bet.

Two offlines then? I was just looking to book accommodation out of Adelaide for 27th (A Friday night) but if there is interest in the 27th (as well as the 22nd perhaps, but not for me) then I am holding off.

I unfortunately can't do Friday nights, but we could look at the weekend of the 28th? Otherwise 2 offlines might be the go

I can do the 28th of march. lunch or dinner.

I'm moving house that weekend and the next week or so after that - so won't be a starter. On the upside I finally have a cellar again. Woohoo.

... which I won't be joining you for. I had to make plane bookings today, and in the absence of something definite, I am heading back to Perth Friday afternoon.

Just back in the saddle again after that trip to hospital...

I can still book something like T-Chow, Park Lok or Ba Guo Bu Yi one night next week at short notice one night if people want to go ahead, just need to know when and how many - leaning towards Tuesday 24th at the moment.

Probably best to try this after Easter now - the World Cup final on Sunday isn't going to exactly help either.

Eight of us ended up getting together at ba guo bu yi last Tuesday night, I hope to have some notes up next week.
