TN: James Irvine Grand Merlot 1987 (Magnum)
TN: James Irvine Grand Merlot 1987 (Magnum)
A ruby/garnet color starting to brick around the edges. Initally on opening the nose was quite closed but after a while (30 mins) it started to open up with leather and dried fruit. The palate was smooth and with quite a bit of acid remaining and some pleasant savoury, meaty characteristics and a little blackcurrent and pepper. Nice intensiity, complex and has integrated nicely. This wine has definately reached its peak but is holding and still has at least 5 years left in it .
Cheers
