Well, just because its fun, and just because I can
What are you enjoying tonight/now.
Me
2012 Yelland and Papps Sete di Vino
Gorgeous, smashable, delicious Italianish blend (Lagrein, Dolcetto, Barbera and Primitivo) with that touch of everyday fun/class that Yelland Papps supply. Gently fruity, lovely low alcohol, slippery, ever so tasty stuff. Its dark, its light, its lush, its soft with incredibly fine tannins on that long soft finish!
Australia needs everyday wines, those to just glug each day and with meals, and this has it in spades! Loving it.
What about you?
ps. Have a bottle of the 2013 Yelland and Papps Sete di Vino open, for more 'smashing later ... stay tuned.

Parker Coonawarra Estate Terra Rossa Cabernet 2010 - wife wanted a red, this was handy. It's pretty decent actually, maybe a teeny tiny bit extracted/overripe, but chewy rich red and black fruit plus a good whack of tannin. Probably better drinking around for $30, but a nice wine, and should match the big fillet steak dinner I'm about to go and cook.

Sounds like you are both doing better than me!
2012 Krondorf Merlot. Lot of berries, would call it a light wine, easy to sip but doesn't bring much to the palate, alcohol 14.5%.
Might have to look for another option! Was fine with the lamb but wouldn't rush back.

Vinteloper 2012 Adelaide Hills Pinot Noir, 'tis very smashable, worryingly so.

Ha! Grabbed 6 of the Shirvington Cab 2004 at the recent Wickmans auction, felt like a reasonably priced house 'quaffer', and a grunty McLaren Cabernet with a bit of age is always a nice decadent treat. Be interested to see how this non-varietal character plays out when I get them.

Great topic to draw people like me from out of the shadows:
2006 Leasingham Bin 61 Shiraz Enjoyable mid week quaffer, med bodied, charry oak, red fruits with a touch of licorice. Enjoyable but not overly complex, however holding up well.

I bought the 04 cab as well.
Its a bit better then a quaffer!
These old wines got caught up in the Heritage fiasco, and I have been buying 03 and 04 cabernet and 03,04,05,06 shiraz as well and having a great time.
There has been a lot of cork problems with the 04 shiraz, but a perfect one is bliss.

Finished off a 2008 Wynns BL...so bloody cold in Adelaide that after 3 days in the decanter it never really moved...can't say i was moved either.
A glass of 2002 Pewsey vale, first two bottles from the dozen badly corked and gleefully replaced by Luisa Rose ( only 02 Rizza that I can think of that was bottled under cork).
And a glass of 2001 Wynns red stripe...very good indeed.
Cheers Craig

2006 Hardys HRB D636 Cabernet Sauvignon (just rolls off the tongue...) 90% Coonawarra, 10% MR.
All coming together nicely - blackcurrant mainly, some red fruits, but starting down a more savoury path with some chocolate and oak folded in nicely. Tannin still holding everything quite firmly, we had rib fillet and went nicely. No rush.

2012 Ruggabellus Fluus. What a funky wine. Mataro definitely coming though. Tasted this wine last year and the Grenache component was more dominant then. Very interesting.

2012 Woods Crampton Shiraz - lovely Barossa quaffer
2010 Yeringberg Cabernet blend - fantastic Bordeaux style blend. So much finesse. Would never have picked this as a Yarra Valley wine if tasted blind.

Just had dinner at a local wine bar
Glass of Polin & Polin Chardonnay, not bad at all, lovely nose and stone fruit palate, good integrated oak, maybe finishing a little short
Glass of 2010 Curly Flat Ponot Noir, nice, well settled and in a good place
Glass of 2012 Eperosa Synthesis (granache/mataro) thought it had an amazing nose, floral and spicy, but the palate whilst ok did just did not follow through.
All went pretty well with some bacalao croquettes, jamon, seared tuna and beef cheeks.

2012 Bowen Cabernet. Acid needs to settle some, but classic Coonawarra goodness here with plenty to come. Will buy a few for cellaring. Looking forward to the Wynns 12 release next week.

We just finished two bottles opened last night...
The first was the 2010 Nick O'Leary Shiraz which is a pretty decent drop with a long future ahead of it, as its excellent form on day two showed. The second was a bottle of the 2011 Alana Estate Pinot Noir (NZ) which I picked up recently as a speculative auction buy. Rather mute on opening, it too was much better on the second night but I won't be rushing back for more as it's nice but a bit plain.

I'm giving my port barrel a nudge tonight. One because its bloody cold and the second reason is that i want to make room for some of the fortified Gav is going to put up for sale soon.
It's a bitsa mix in there. Some tahbilk grand tawny, some romante cardinal Pedro, some new Zealand coffee
Liquor, a dash of brandy and then topped up with some galway pipe tawny. That was about 18 months
Ago and wow is it really starting to impress.

Lovely line up Dave!
Last night was at a small Jura tasting. Superb line up, but standouts were:
2011 Ganevat Cuvee Florine Chardonnay...clean, amazing
2009 Overnoy Chardonnay....oxidative, legendary

A series of 2011 Mosel Kabinett level rieslings:
Donnhoff Oberhause Liestenberg
Schloss Lieser
Fritz Haag Brauneberg
AJ Adam (to be opened tonight)
So far the Schloss Lieser is the clear winner - ripe but restrained and balanced, and completely smashable.
Halliday gave this a steroids enhanced meaningless score somewhere around 96, for me its closer to 89.
