Oh dear

Well, my offsite storage unit has already nearly filled up, what with my voracious buying and the 10-12 dozen I already had when I got it. As I was putting some wine away down there today I mentioned it to the guy in charge and he said he thought they had a few available...turns out the one next to mine is empty!

This could be very dangerous. Apart from having room for another 25 dozen or so, they are at floor level and there have been some awkward postures arranging wine in there. I can well imagine a wine relate back injury in my future.

I am going to try and slow down the buying and focus more on quality.

I was thinking of making the new one the 'long term cellar ing' space, for stuff that should go away 8-10 years at a minimum. Is that a bit crazy? Am I better off reserving some space in the back of each for the long term stuff?

I struggled with this issue about a year back. I decided to focus on some better quality wines over quantities of ok stuff.
As a consequence I took about 100 bottles of ok stuff out and started drinking them. There's only a few bottles left, and I pick up cheapies at auction for some aged weekend drinking as I wait for the better stuff to mature.
I also drink a few quaffers mid week which normally consist of current release reds (and the odd white)

I'm facing the same dilemma.

Problem in my case....

I move around and travel a lot due my job and I'm currently working in the mines at outback Queensland. I hardly drink much for 2 weeks but when I have my week off, I drink a fair bit, go through quite bit of "tastings".

I have 24 dozen wine storage in Melbourne of quality wines, got like couple dozens left of spare space left, as I was living in Melbourne before I moved to Queensland for better employment job position with far better wage/pay position as I'm not married or have any kids, I'm turning 36 this year. My mother lives in Sunshine Coast, usually stay with her in some of my week offs rent free other times, go holidays to Melbourne 6-8 times a year other times I visit friends and relatives interstate and overseas.

As often when I order wines from my mailer listings or other places for long term cellaring like least a decade or so I usually have them send to Melbourne's relatives/friends, and I put them away in my off site wine storage in Melbourne.

Been looking at options either:

1) Get other Wine Storage Vault in Melbourne
2) Get other Wine Storage Vault in Brisbane
3) Get other Wine Storage Vault in Sunshine Coast
4) Simply get a bigger 48-50 dozen Wine Vault Storage in Melbourne

I am a nomadic, I never settle down in one place long, always busy working my way around the country.

I just recently spent 3.5 hours in my off site storage sorting out my wines and recording each bottle and which bottle is located in which box, so I can find them easy for future reference, it's been a while since I last visited there and it's slowly getting out of hand.

I just don't know what to do....

Your not alone mate, Maybs.

Damon. Just go for multiple locations if you're unsure. I have professional storage in UK, US and Australia and it helps when you need something at relatively short notice.
