1x 2004 Dom Perignon .... from duty free so who knows what the quality will be like, but I was a bit tipsy on my way out of Singapore and thought I would get something to celebrate arrival in the UK (at S$195 I thought the value was OK).

Totally agree LGW.

On the recent taste the best I had were Campbells rare Isabella and Merchant Prince but at $110 375ml - a bit expensive.
The Morris were easily the best value at $40 for 500ml.

Stanton and Killeen I thought had the best classic range.

Hi dave, I'd be interested in any tasting notes of the St Henri 96. I've one bottle of two left that I'm thinking is at or near maximum cellaring potential, if not a little over.

Cheers

It wasn't direct but I'm pretty sure I can't mention the company on here either. I purchased a case from them a few months ago and they called up last week saying they had a few cases available again (they've probably sold out again by now). Hope that helps!

The current release is the 2010, I've been meaning to grab a few.

No worries, just wondering... I have some of the 2010's, and very nice they are too... About to put in an order for 6 of the latest reserve merlot too..

Hi Daz,

This thread viewtopic.php?f=1&t=13924&p=115262 contains a combined tasting note for a bottle I shared with some friends a few months ago. In short, was drinking superbly! Can't see it improving further, but I don't think it was going downhill yet either. Based on how much I enjoyed that bottle I bought three more with plans to drink over the next year or two at most. Fingers crossed they are in as good a condition.

I think it depends on how you like your wine. IMO, that St. Henri will improve and evolve over the next 10 years (if not longer). I don't think it is near its peak. If you still want more primary fruit, some secondary characteristics and softened structure then it is looking good right now.

I wouldn't have thought there would be any rush to drink the 1996 St Henri. Hope not anyway. I'm planning to open a 1996 on my birthday this year alongside my single lonely 1986 (here's hoping that's a good bottle!).

Purchases this month - couple of clearances, and I've been on a bit of a Nebbiolo fix lately:

6 x 2011 Brookland Valley Cabernet Merlot
6 x 2011 Brookland Valley Chardonnay
1 x 1996 Produttori del Barbaresco Montefico
1 x 1997 Produttori del Barbaresco Moccagatta
4 x 2012 SC Pannell by SCP Nebbiolo - great value local nebb
3 x 2004 Borgogno Barolo
1 x 2004 Fontanafredda Serralunga D'Alba
1 x 2008 Crawford River Cab Merlot
2 x 2006 De Bortoli Estate Shiraz Viognier
2 x 2011 and 2 x 2012 Brokenwood Semillon (half bottles I found in a clearance bin - couldn't resist)

Hi Calm,

Have you tried the 2010 Mentor? I had a 1998 6 months or so ago that was terrific. I do like a Barossa cabernet every now and then, though I have virtually none in the cellar. Might have to try one again.

Hi Will
No haven't tried it, I realised that I quite like Barossa Cabernet and had little put away (mostly WA/Coonawarra). Bought on a recent review I saw and it sounded like it had the characters I enjoy in a Cab. Let me know of any other examples you could recommend.

I bought 2 dozen of the Riposte Sabre Pinot Noir 2012. I cracked one for the first time last night. I was very impressed. Great clarity and purity in Ruby colour. The nose was enticing and addictive. Smooth tannins and obviously great oak make this an outstanding Pinot. Unbelievable value. Highly recommended. I had it with roast lamb.

Most Cabernet in my cellar is also Coonawarra & Margaret River (WA probably dominant now and increasing, I seem to be buying less Coonawarra). So I haven't had that many Barossa either - if anyone else has some to try that would be appreciated. The ones that stick out for me are Rifle Range (loved the 2010) and Mentor. The Rockford reeks of class, sounds like this is standard for this producer.

Cheaper end I've had some Thorne Clarke blends which I've really enjoyed. I bought a 6 pack of an Eden Springs Cab (2006) on the back of a Halliday review ages ago - which is great, still 3 bottles left and starting drink nicely. I then promptly never heard of or saw their wines again. Now I think on it - Eden Valley may be more to my tastes.
