I used to collect wine labels and now that digital photography has got to where this collection is sooo outdated what photo's do you have. Historical, memorable, and maybe a story behind the photo as well.
Inspired by Shannons' rare wine dinner photo's, I would like to limit this thread to wine you personally have tasted, or owned (even if you may have had to "pass on" for matters we will ignore).
I will start with

I don't have much experience with Grange but.. I had no idea they used to make it with French oak… it's American now, right? When did that change and why did they do it?

Just looking at your avatar Andrew I wondered if you knew Elderton had released this little number.
![Wink ](./images/smilies/icon_wink.gif)
I believe it's basically a command shiraz.

Scotty,
Very cool

No I did not know of this release. I assume this was a cellar door only purchase?
Pity 2008 wasn't a Premiership year. Is someone in the Ashmead family a Carlton fan?

Honestly I stumbled upon it on the Elderton site and forwarded it to the boss with a wink wink, nudge nudge email.
Lucky for me it showed up as a gift for fathers day.
My Plan is to open it when they hold cup number 17 aloft.
Might be while yet, but i think it might be a good thing for the wine.

If they want to release a wine in a Carlton premiership year, I hope you guys are prepared to wait decades (sorry Scotty!). Its much harder to win when you abide by the salary cap rules... (and Andrew, before you say anything Swannies are abiding by the 'rules').

The thread drift is going too far methinks - to pull it back I offer this old label from a bottle I opened in 2001:

So Mike what is the actual deal with Buddy...have the Swans got an arrangement with the ATO that his pension will need to be indexed as it will take decades to pay him out and still be under the salary cap?
The Swans ride will be over in a year or two... the Sydney experiment has been a spectacular success for the AFL , but time now to redress the imbalance.
They will want the Mighty Blues to claim number 17 sooner than later....can't have Mick being cranky for another 12 months
Cheers
Craig.

I've read recently that the AFL want to reestablish the date of when the AFL commenced.
If so, the blues will be awarded an extra 6 flags taking them to 22.
I believe the bombers will get 4 taking them to 20. boohoo.

They should have not got rid of Ratten. Big mistake I still believe in hiring Malthouse. It is another Pagan experiement gone wrong and I do not see us winning our 17th until Malthouse is a distance memory.

IMO the MM experiment could still go either way. MM needs nearly every position on the ground to be locked down
otherwise his plan is always open to failure.
Pagan was a different story. Particularly if you've read Kouta's book. Half the players didn't even want him,
the club was probably in the worst state it's ever been financially and we had an ageing list.
The arrogant, lackadaisical approach worked a treat in the 80's and 90's but since then we've struggled.
Didn't help we paid SOS, braddles, browny and O'Reily under the table.
I think the ratten era was a little bit of a false dawn. But is MM too old? That's my worry.

Okay, this is another attempt to get back to the thread - remember, wine label photos, not Aussie rules football?
Another label favourite, from northern Italy, made from Nebbiolo, is a 1980 Ghemme by Antonio Vallana - their wines are supposed to last for ages.

Okay, no more thread drift, please, more wine labels.
Thanks...................................Mahmoud.

I'll snap a 54 Mt Ed and a 50's HofG too if I can find them next week buried in the cellar somewhere. Should have been consumed eons ago and the occasion didn't present- will just leave them now as curios.

That Mt Ed is a beauty!
I was going to post on footy as I haven't opened anything nice for a little while.
But it seems footy chat has been barred, so I dug this up. Good drop. Even tells you how many bottles worth are in 5L!

I'm struggling to upload this picture, being on the ipad, but here's a link to it on our twitter profile:
http://t.co/Pkpzzi42UtIt's different to those posted already on this thread, in that it's the label from the back of the bottle, but I just love the detail Mac Forbes puts into his labels. No sales waffle, just cold hard data. My favourite sort

I love the Mount Edelstone label, both front and back - it's a classic.
Here is another interesting and unusual label - a sherry from the Crimea. It used to be a Ukrainian wine but now, cosidering recent events, it's a Russian wine.
![Image](http://i.imgur.com/38c5kBnl.jpg)
How many wine labels are there that feature a famous photograph from history?
Cheers..............................Mahmoud.

Nice one Scotty. The design looks quite modern as there are similarly colourful labels for branded wines on retail shelves over here but the variety (riesling) and style (auslese) gives it away. Was there a Kellyland winery in Glenrowan - as suggested by the label? I only recall three wineries in the vacinity when I visited in 2001: Baily's, Booths, and Auldstone.
Mahmoud.

Mahmoud.
My father gave me this wine with a bunch of other very dubious wines that he had lying around.
Really not too sure how it came to be in his possession.
I love the line "Savour a taste of history in a town too tough to die".
