2002 Fox Creek Reserve Shiraz
First taste, quick first impression.
What a very impressive wine this is, power, style, class and complexity combined together. Deep purple red, almost black with crimson edges.
The nose is an enticing mix of dark berries, plums and blackberry fruit, with liquorice hints showing the depth and intensity of the fruit. Add to this chocolate, exotic spices and vanilla in what is already a powerful and complex nose.
The palate is loaded, initially blackberry and plummy fruit followed by spice, licorice and dark chocolate. The wine is densely flavoured but in balance, the wine has an almost creamy mouthfeel and texture, and the finish is long and well balanced with fine tannins showing some structure.
Will cellar, but is delicious now.
