Storing screwcap sideways long term

I recently had a mate tell me there may be some issues with storing screwcap wine sideways long term, mainly with the wine reacting with the cap itself over the course of many years. Has anyone who has stored screwcap wines long term (10yrs+) had any issue?

Not yet, but I am seeing some deeper staining of the little coin thing that sits up inside the cap. You seem to sometimes get lots of tartrate crystals attaching to the underside of corks, but I have not seen that at all on screwcaps for some reason.

Cheers mate - I added a poll as well so it'll be interesting to see the results!

I heard that Penfold's have been doing screwcap trials on Grange for decades. I'd love to know if anyone has had a chance to do a comparison.

Pretty much the same for me - the screw-capped wines get stored sideways when they fit into a box or carton with the regular wines.

I do both however increasingly my purchases are in screwcap so as time goes on most of my wine i would imagine will be in screwcap.
Would be a real problem logistically if you need to store upright as wine fridges are designed for horizontal storage.....
