What Wine Will Adam Scott Serve?

As you may know, the current US Masters champion hosts a dinner for all previous champions on the eve of the Masters. Last years champ Adam Scott is host and he is arranging Moreton Bay Bugs as part of a typically Aussie Surf and Turf. He was quoted as saying: "I think they are going to be pretty happy with what I serve up tonight, and particularly the wine."

I would love to know just what wines he is presenting to the assembled golfing immortals. Grange? Probably. Wonder how we could find out....

I'd love to know too

Probably best way to do it is to ask the celebs themselves - hit them up directly on Twitter, including Adam himself

I'm sure it will be published by one of the Aussie newspapers. Apparently they found it 'too difficult' to arrange meat pies for the cocktail snacks.

As an aside, if you golf lovers ever get a chance to watch the Masters live in Augusta, take it. One of the best things I've ever done. And surprisingly, food, drink and souvenirs are really cheap... The year I went (2006), Ian Healey was working for Channel 9 as an assistant camera man, for the sole reason that it gave him an opportunity to play the course on the Monday... Who said wicket keepers weren't smart ?!!

Perhaps I'm being a bit fussy, but in such revered company, isn't the '05 Grange just a little young, and the Yattarna, whilst ok, is hardly the best chardonnay we can present. An aged LEAS, a Giaconda, plenty of others...

Perhaps they just want cold lagers

You think it was supplied by Penfolds? Good publicity? Agree 05 Grange a crime to serve so young. Hope they decanted it for 8 hours. Doubt it.

Thanks for starting this Dave!
Very excited for the next 4 days...and will watch most of it live.

Agree with the comments regarding the wines, but keen to hear more golf opinion!
Any particular fancies??

Obviously Phil/Rory etc will take all the beating, but seems to be wide open in terms of players with genuine chances.
I did back a couple of players a while ago...good putters at big prices...so just hoping to get a run for my money :-)

@Mark....where were you when Bubba hit 'that' shot??

@Mike...yes, one day i'll definitely be there (bit like the Rockford golf day!). Also likely playing Hilton Head & Bethpage black on a holiday later this year.....are these on the amazing schedule you mentioned on another thread?

More to the point...how many dozen are in the Penfolds truck that is off to Mr Scott's address?

Shudder to think if he wins the thing...Gago and all other hangers on might be in the wings with an ampoule

Cheers Craig.

Cheers

Michael

I was standing green side pin high on the 18th for the finale on day 4. After the first play off hole (18th) there were too many people to get a view down the 10 the for Bubba's shot.
Apart from stunning lay out the most interesting point was how hilly the course is.

I will definitely return one day, perhaps when my son is old enough to appreciate it.

Cheers

Tips - D Johnson, M Kuchar, J Day, B Snedeker. I still think Rory has troubles hitting his new clubs that he got paid a motza to use and figure a seppo will win again this year. Hopefully the two young Aussies (Bowditch and Jones) make the cut after their recent PGA wins to book a tee time at the Masters. I'm heading up the coast, two games booked in, one at Kooindah Waters and one Pacific Dunes with a few mates. Weekend of Golf, footy and canning. It's a shame that I have a grade 3 tear in my left ankle caused by a recent basketball mishap. :(

If only the mob who cover the European Tour could cover this. I seriously love golf, but I really struggle listening to the American commentators. They realy dribble nonsense half the time. All they show are American golfers, pictures of trees and lakes. It's boring as bat shit. The golf and golf course are incredible though and I'll still have a peek or two.

On a more positive note. Looks like I'll be going to the Phoenix Open next year and we get to play the course on the Tuesday after, exactly the way the pros played it. All the grandstands are left up as well. Can't wait. Hope it all comes together for us.

I really wish Adam Scott had of used his imagination a bit more with his wine choice. They are both world renowned wines but it would have been nice to see maybe Basket Press or Clonakilla instead of Grange and perhaps Leeuwin Art Series or Giaconda instead of Yatarrna.

My tip - Jason Duffner or jason Day

Cheers
Ian

I heard today that if Jason Day wins it would leapfrog him into World No. 1 place in the World Rankings. I know that Adam is defending his points, but he only needs to tie for third (with Day not winning) to gain No. 1 place. Not quite sure how that works....

Now, if I win the Rockford Black Magnum Day, where does that put me.....

Love the view points...so wide open it's hard to have much conviction really.
I went with sneedeker & kuchar fwiw. Tempted to have a small nudge on zach Johnson too, but have to draw the line.
Being backing kuchar for a while in majors and this is definitely his last chance to win me money!

Greg, I'm already playing fri & Sunday.....it's too painful watching the masters without being able to play along too!
Always keen for a game though mate, a weeks notice is all I need generally.

Enjoy pacific dunes PC...had a great experience there in similar circumstances a few years ago..hopefully course is in good nick.

Cheers

Ps.Ian..to set the Phoenix up same as the players comp...won't they need 200k drunk fans yelling at you

I really think it could be another Aussie win - so many of them have been playing well on the PGA tour this year.

I've played Hilton Head & Myrtle Beach courses before - both are nice areas, with beaches etc for the family as well. BP Black is my favourite US course by far - and you can now register to get a tee time 2 days beforehand as a non-NY resident (I'd strongly recommend you do this). I'm off to Ireland on Tuesday - 9 days playing courses like Royal County Down (my 2nd favourite course on the planet), Ballybunion, Waterville, Old Head, Lahinch etc. In some ways I enjoy Irish golf more than the Scottish courses.

I really like Jim Nance as a commentator, but agree, they only show their favourites. Eldridge and Phil could be 10 off the lead with 6 to play, yet we'll see every shot they hit. The British coverage is even worse. When Adam Scott blew up at Lytham, they only showed a handful of his shots the whole back nine - it was ridiculous. (As an aside, if you ever want to play Royal Lytham and St Annes, book accommodation at the 'dorm' on course. Its cheap and will ensure you get a tee time, even on summer weekends).

Enjoy Mike.
As an Irishman I'm very proud of those courses, just hope you get 'reasonable' weather on some of them

Never played County Down unfortunately, aiming to remedy that when I'm next home in Dublin for a decent stint.
Love Lahinch, not the most famous course maybe, but some great memories of playing rounds there and heading onto Frawleys pub (since closed).

Have a great trip.

Thanks Michael. I cannot recommend RCD highly enough. If you play there (I've got two rounds booked), work on your fairway shots beforehand - they're probably the tightest fairway lies I've played off. It will be my first time at Lahinch, but every time I play Ballybunion, the locals suggest Lahinch and Tralee as (almost) equals. I know what you mean about the weather - last time I played Ballybunion, the wind was 70 km and hour and it was 4 degress - miserable to say the least !
