Canberra offline no.2

Venue: Pulp Kitchen - Ainslie shops
Time: 7.30pm - Same as last time okay with everyone?
Date: Thursday, 20 February
Theme: chardonnay/gamay/pinot - One bottle per person style?

Confirmed attendees:
Pstarr - Beaujolais / chard sparkler
Duncan Disorderly +2 - gamay / chard backup + Pinot (colleague)
TravisW - Chardonnay
Dlo - Pinot
The fish - Pinot

Anyone keen for a game of options? I'm happy to bring an extra bottle or so.

Paul: are you okay to make the booking? Are we all okay with either of these menus (Regular: http://www.pulp-kitchen.com.au/menus/dinner_menu.pdf or Set menu: http://www.pulp-kitchen.com.au/menus/set_menus.pdf) ? Happy to hear your comments.

Dan_smee you up for it? All are welcome.

Cheers
The fish

Hi Matt,

I'm not entirely confirmed, still dreaming. Will advise when locked in.

Looking like chardonnay the go at this stage?

cheers,

Put me down for gamay, but I'll bring a bottle of chardonnay as an emergency.

We can bring a gamay (maybe some Cru stuff from older vines) and something else. Maybe kick off with a chardonnay-based sparkler?

I'll call Daniel at Pulp and have a chat about the arrangements. Over a certain size of group we might need to be a bit flexible.

Sounds good Paul.

Visited the offsite storage today :) plenty of oz or kiwi Pinot on hand. Also have some quality burgs but not entirely sure about the stage that they might be in. Will make some calls on Monday and call a few favours in to ensure we can access the best of both worlds :)

Cheers
Matt

Booked for 8 people at 7:30pm for Thursday 20th at Pulp Kitchen. All good if the numbers shift a bit. Daniel knows the theme and that there will be about one bottle person. He can provide Riedel glasses for the table. Should be a good night.

Here's a little bit of trivia re Alex McKay's Collector wines: They are all named after art works by Canberra artist Rosalie Gascoigne (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rosalie_Gascoigne).

Here's his Tiger Tiger Chardonnay: http://www.mca.com.au/collection/work/1995166a-b/

His Folded Blue Pyrenees Shiraz: http://www.roslynoxley9.com.au/artists/ ... 770/42254/

His Lamp Lit Marsanne: https://www.qagoma.qld.gov.au/collectio ... _gascoigne

Pretty cool eh?

Cheers, Travis.

That's some nice booze art there Mr Webb 8) I reckon that there should be an annual 'art competition' for best bottle art. Some of the stuff that you see getting around on the labels is just terrible :?

Looking forward to trying the Tiger Tiger. Have only tried Alex's Marked Tree Shiraz and that was a pretty tasty little number.

I have a delivery coming in from storage in Sydney tomorrow - leaving in a mate's esky tonight :) 2007 Burg - by all accounts it's ready to go.

Looking forward to catching up.

Cheers
Matt

I'm predicting via Collins is, after a somewhat promising start, looking decidedly not attending, so let's call it seven which is more than enough and go with the flow. See you all there. My pinot will be of the French variety. Options are always an option. It's up to the individual whether to mask etc but if you do, make sure you have your option questions well prepared ... otherwise the "challenge" becomes somewhat onerous for all involved.

Most regrettably, my initial rash notion of coming along has been dashed.

The extent to which I thought it was a ripper idea was matched by the extent to which my family thought it wasn't :(

I do thankyou for the warm pre-welcome, and I do promise to ensure I get to one before long.

Have a good one.

Thanks, Travis. I didn't realise that the names came from visual art. I'd always thought literary sources for some reason (perhaps because of Alex's lit studies background).

Cool. I'd thought Tiger Tiger was from Blake. 'Rose red city half as old as time' is a line from a Burgon poem about the city of Petra. I hadn't figured out Tangled Blue or Lamp Lit...

Gentlemen,

I was wondering whether you would have any objections if I brought a work colleague. He is just getting into collecting and I thought it might be a good opportunity for him to experience the slippery, but oh so enjoyable, slope, that we are all only too aware of. He also has a nice bottle of pinot I'd be fond of trying.

Looking forward to Thursday.

I have no problem. But we need to keep a limit on how many attend as organisation and pours (from 750ml bottles) become a bit of a joke when attendees number above 8.

So are we at 9 people now?

Dlo
The fish
Myself & Tammy
Duncan + 3 (?)
Travis

I will need to confirm final numbers with Daniel, possibly tomorrow or during the day on Thursday.

Duncan + Partner + Work Colleague = Duncan + 2 = a total of 8. Or I have I missed something?

...I believe that there is a wine tasting on next door at the Ainslie Cellars - runs 5.30 to 7.30 tonight. Purely coincidental... :D

From memory it's Quarry Hill? Will check the twittersphere and report back.

Edit: QH confirmed. Paul are you on pre-dinner duty?

Well... I'm feeling a little dusty after another very enjoyable dinner with fellow Canberra winerati.

I will wait for someone to provide a more eloquent rundown of the line up, but here they are.
