I think in switching to the new system, I'm going to also switch my rating to the TORB scale. At least, I'll try it for awhile. I've noticed too many of my notes have a compressed 85-95 pt range.

Anyway:

D'Arenberg Laughing Magpie (McLaren Vale) - dark dense purple with a hint of reddening. Nice aromatics of blackberries, earth, blueberries and apricots. The apricot element seemed less to me than the '00, with more tannic power in this wine. Excellent, rich flavors similar to the nose, with a good length (30 seconds), tannic finish. Rated as Highly Recommended (**** for value).

No its not, no its not! Its only Highly Recommended with three and three quarter stars for value. But then the US $ just moved a couple of points against the Oz Peso.

Erl Happ makes some good wine for a West Australian.

I'm still pining for the days when it was 2-to-1. Sniff.

As for the rating scale, clearly it's the wave of the future
I always find it hard to put something at the top end of the scale, I'm hoping Outstanding clears the way and I'll never issue an Ultimate.

And I can remember my first trip the the US in the late 70's when I got US$1.25 for my Oz$ - now those were good days.

Very few. 83, 86, and 96 Grange, Buller Museum Tokay and possibly one or two others I tasted at dinners.
