corked wine - ordinary response form winery

Post by Paul »

Have a corked 2001 Serafino shiraz which is undrinkable and 95% of wine is still in bottle.
Phoned winery..... they said they would replace it when I return the bottle/wine with cork.
I said I won't be in Mclaren Vale for several months and they said no problem just return the bottle/wine when I come down and I said OK.
Wonder what the wine will be like in 6 months ???
I bet you they are thinking I won't return the wine but they are wrong !!!

Hi paul

Did you buy it at retail? Usually the retailer will replace it and get their own replacement from the winery/distributor.

corked Serafino 2001 shiraz

Serafino 2001 shiraz purchased at cellar door.
Not sure if a retailer would appreciate someone trying for a replacement when the wine was actually purchased at cellar door.
Well, if Serafino are willing to wait 6 months to replace it then I'll return any other corked Serafino's which I may have in the meantime.

Thanks

I wondered, you're right, I couldn't replace cellar door purchases.

Good luck, they should

a) replace it immediately.

b) bottle them in screwcaps!

There has been a study that showed that corked wines with time had less tca detecteable once opened - something like that. Murray knows the study. Store the wine on its side in contact with the cork.

You are well within your rights to ask for a replacement and send the wine to them in the post with a receipt for the shipping and for them to send you a replacement with a cheque for the shipping.
I wouldnt accept any less especially since you bought it cellar door.
