NV Berri Estates Olde Madeira Special Show Wine, Riverland (cork): 700 ceramic bottles produced from two Hogsheads - a blend of the following wines: 1964 Shiraz, 1967 Shiraz, 1969 Pedro, 1970 Palomino, 1970 Boradillo, 1973 Malaga. Light to medium amber/tawny with long legs on the glass, cherry red flashes and a bright olive rim, reminiscent of the 1983 Para Liqueur tawny, and for that matter a cherry-sunburst Les Paul Standard. Smells divine, toasted walnuts, fig, fresh paint, white chocolate, toffee, honey and a touch of almond and tobacco; the palate's lighter than I would expect for a wine of this age, but well balanced with slightly funky spirit and toast/tobacco lingering on the finish. It goes to the head very quickly (alcohol % unknown), but is just such a joy to drink.
Cheers,
Ian
