Family holiday late August to Melbourne thought we would come back via the Great Ocean Road, thinking I might be able to squeeze in a winery along the way if I don't pull over too many times through the Grampians area.
Never been through the Geelong area and have very little to near nil experience of the wines from the region.
After any comments or suggestions.

Appreciate the information.
Matt

Lethbridge could be worth a look.

Most definitely...Lethbridge...

Depends on what you want though...
They have:
Very Burgundian style Chardonnays and Pinot Noir. To me the Pinot will be very different from what you find in Australia...which is good or bad depending on what you like...
Riesling w/ very high acid and some residual sugar
Some funky blends that are quite interesting (different label).

I'm not sure how many cellar doors there are in the Robe/Benson region but going through Langhorne Creek I highly recommend Bleasdale and Lake Breeze. Bleasdale in particular has a lot of history and their range of wines considerable, even dessert wines.

Mahmoud.

Several years ago, worked one summer at Robe, there was a cellar door for Katnook's and other shop selling local Limestone Coast wines tastings in a old sandstone building on the main street, not sure if still there these days. Robe's not far from Coonawarra though.

As Damon implies, Coonawarra isn't too far off the main highway and is well worth visiting.

If you happen to decide to go from Mount Gambier to Portland via the coast road (also called the Nelson-Portland or Portland-Nelson Road) then you might try dropping in at Barretts. The location is at the corner of Beauglehole and Gorae Roads, Gorae West - about 18km from the centre of Portland.

Rod used to do a cracking Riesling, although I found that Lethbridge have recently been using his grapes in their Dr Naderson so it might now be defunct. He used to do a lovely Traminer, but we got the last of his last vintage (2002?) as (I think) he said it was too much work. And his fortified red was equally good. I haven't been back there in a while (we didn't have time when we were in Portland last year).
