Help me name my website!

Hi All,

I have been tossing around some names, and I thought I would ask here for some input. Currently, my favourite is Vinographic - the site will focus on wine and photography (my wife is a photographer). Others I was tossing around are 'vintology' 'vinographe' '6 months on lees' (although the number is arbitrary and sounds kind of strange) 'cold soak' 'whole bunch ferment'.

Any other ideas people are willing to share or help out with?

VinDepict
Portraivino
Oenographer

I should be in advertising, I just need a Ferrari California, Rolex and a pony tail and I'm set.

Assuming the photos are wine related, and you're keen to drive traffic, maximise search engine results ...

Can of worms to ask a forum like this a question like this!

Your surname is so unique, maybe it should be used somewhere as a branding mechanism? (although maybe your wife uses her own name for her photography?)

From Vines to Smee
Vinoview
Small Berry Blog
Un-natural Ferment
Fermenting on a Photograph
Shiraz Tinted Glasses

haha sorry Im just amusing myself

Thanks for all the suggestions everyone!

Regarding content, what sort of things do you enjoy reading on wine blogs - personally, I prefer personal stories - not just tasting notes, but the stories behind dinners/events etc.

Looking forward to the final name choice Dan, Flash Oenography was a nice suggestion from PaulG I thought, but perhaps a bit highbrow....

Plenty of different wines always gets my attention. Stories always good, but can be a bit same-ey. A big long spiel about terroir, family and sustainable cowhorn practices with three obscure wines featured doesn't really, but it depends on the producer.

And as you no doubt well know, good pictures tell thousands of words, just preferably not a generic leafy vineyard shot!

Crazy generalisations there of course, it's all good really! I wish you all the best, and loving your enthusiasm and passion. Hope to catch up one day for a few shared bottles.

Cheers
Tim

Thought I'd post a couple of my wife's photos from the Next Gen Hunter event the other night:

So - thanks everyone for all the assistance with the name. There were a heap of great suggestions, and I put a full list to my wife who suggested I stay with the original concept. Sorry to ask for your help and then 'ignore' it all! anyway - my site is now live, however I have to go back through and add some photos to the first few posts. Here is a direct link to my post about the next gen Hunter event:

Happy to hear any feedback, criticisms etc.

Great photos Dan. Where did you hear about the Hunter tasting? I'm so out of the loop back here in Oz when it comes to tastings. The only one I know of is the Coonawarra one coming up later in the year. That, and DM's annual Shiraz glug-athon.

Cheers, Travis.

Hi Travis,

Was a subscriber to their facebook page from last year. Saw they were coming to Canberra.

Sorry folks - your suggestions were "Nothing but a little whine (sic)" .....

(PS - Dan : The glassless drinking photo reminds me of the lads annual wine trip which (sadly) is now more than a week ago ... :S )

I had the fortunate experience to receive traditional Hungarian hospitality in Budapest a few years back where literally they come around with a filled glass reservoir, you tilt your head back in the seat, they pull their thumb off the glass outlet and you open your gullet and let them pour .. until you then slap the table to signify "enough" ... you may need to slap the table PROFUSELY to make them stop. After the reds we then sampled a range of 6 puttonyos Tokays .... :))

It does a bit. I love that it is winemaker/owner of De Iuliis, Mike De Iuliis doing the pouring. And it is the Limited Release 2009 Shiraz, a $60 bottle.

I would gladly tip my head back for a sample of six puttonyos. We have a small bottle downstairs of Tokaji Eszencia. It will be ready to drink in about 50 years time.
