2000 Hanging Rock Winery Heathcote Shiraz (cork): 14% alc. Medium to dark red/garnet. Smells very pretty with some obvious development, violets and tar, sour cherries, beef stock, earth, truffle and leather, a little ozone and white pepper adding lift. The palate’s not as attractive, tart and tarry, medium to full weight with leathery, cherry fruit and chalky tannins on entry, but as the fruit falls away the long finish is extremely bitter as those green tea-like tannins dominate. Drink now with food.

Apologies for bringing up an old post, but anyone know how the 02-04 wines are holding up? I found a few in my cellar just recently.
Judging by your post last year n4sir, these would need to drunk I imagine, especially 2002.

I last tried the 2002 vintage a couple of years before the 2000 - it was looking in considerably better shape. :)

It also might also be worth noting the 2002 was bottled under DIAM as opposed to natural cork (you can see the cork in the 2000 wasn't exactly ideal). :|

I haven't tried the 2003-2004 vintages, so I can't add much there - James Halliday had a drinking window to 2013 for the 2003, and to 2019 for the 2004.

He also had drinking windows of to 2012 for the 2000, and to 2022 for the 2002. Going by that, if you have any bottle(s) of the 2003 they should be near the top of your hit list - the 2002 & 2004 vintages I'd have a lot more confidence in, but they also may be worth having a look at in the next couple of years anyway.

Cheers,
Ian

I had an 09' a few months back. Out of the 9 wines the 4 of us got through that night, the 09 Heathcote Shiraz was by far the favourite. It was very surprising.

I've had a few of the 2000s during the course of last year, and there has been a fair bit of bottle variation, on top of one being corked. I've still got One or two left which I will probably have during the colder months

I really enjoyed a 2008 I had a few weeks ago.

Had the 02 a couple of weeks back and from this example good bottles are singing now with plenty of time left as well.
