Hi all,

200th (monthly) anniversary looming.

Choices (all '96s or course):
- Leroy Gevrey Chambertin Les Combottes
- Comte Georges de Vogue Chambolle-Musigny Premier Cru
- Groffier Bonnes Mares

What would you suggest, and why?

Cheers,

Monghead.

Just as i've submitted a recommendation post, in this case I have no knowledge of the wines so I would go with the one that has the most meaning to you and your wife.
If not I'm no use.

Why don't you ask this question on the Berserkers forum? They are true burgundy tragics and you would probably get some knowledgable answers there. Not that there aren't experts here as well....

I'd go the Chambolle-Musigny. I reckon the Combottes and BM would still be way young.

May I join this thread Mong with similar question?

Got some special friends visiting from interstate, seriously into their wines, I would like to ask too here please?

I have few of each in cellar, would like to taste the "first" one and see how it's going, hopefully they turn out OK 8)

2003 Tahbilk 1860 Old Vines Shiraz
2002 Wendouree Shiraz
2003 Mount Mary Quintent

What should I open here to go with some premium Wagyu, Lobster, and Truffled Butter? Decided to go over the top just for my special guests.

I haven't opened any of above previously before, hence asking which one should go first opening and others open other time down the track I guess? And how long should decant for?

Hope it's ok I jumped into this thread with similar question Mong.

Cheers, Damo

I'd be tempted to go the Mt Mary given the lobster component, as the Wendouree can be a heavy wine. Not familiar with the Tahbilk sorry.

Have not heard of Beserkers... However, I have enough trouble keeping up with one forum these days...

Damo, I concur with the Mount Mary. It should be great...

Without fail the best burgundy resource I have found. Full of egos though. Not dissimilar to the eBob forum.

In regard to the Nagambie Lakes Shiraz vs Clare Shiraz v Yarra Cabernet Blend quandry, I'd go the Wendouree. But I agree that the Mount Mary is probably a better bet as a first opened bottle if your lobster and truffle butter is served up round 1 as entree. I didn't think that 2003 was that great a year in those two districts ? 2002 was absolute cracker in the Clare. Yes, it will be big and powerful, but I prefer my reds that way, so its probably pertinent to consider your friends and their particular tastes. I usually minimise salt and maximise fresh cracked mixed pepper kernels with my steak and so big and powerful works for me.
