You know the drill. What we talk about we talk about but what we buy makes the world go around
Don't need any wine at the moment, but couldn't leave
2010 Te Mata Coleraine in stock at a local supermarket when they have it for $39.99. Fixed, they are now totally out of stock. Same price as a cheap 09 bordeaux but 1000x better quality
Also walked past a bottle of
2010 Grasshopper Rock Pinot Noir and decided to give a bottle a go at $32 on the back of its extraordinary show/ tasting success this year

That's a decent sort of supermarket special for Coleraine.
The Australians have no idea how good NZ supermarkets are for premium wines.
That would have to be one of the most amazing I have seen though.

Is that 39.99 NZD? Wow..back up the truck!
I thought that wine was in pretty tight supply...how does that even happen? haha...
At least when something like happens at Costco in the US, it is because they are the largest wine retailer in the US...

That is pretty staggering.
Factor in exchange rate, that's AUD$32 a btl for a wine that retails at $80 a btl in Oz - if you can find any.
Wonderful pick-up Craig.

I sent a few to auction last month to make some room in the cellar and because my taste have change- it was reasonable successful. So to celebrate the extra room in the cellar I used the money from the auction to start filling it up again:
2009 Wynns John Riddoch I tasted this one on the Saturday from the dregs of the bottle opened for Wynnsday. It was stunning. No hint of oxidation, bright vibrant fruit and as balanced as a pyramid of Cirque du Soleil accrobats. Thanks to the big chain's price beating policies I got it at a steal.
2010 Te Mata ColeraineI've not seen a bad review and Craig keeps banging on about it so I thought I give them a go.
2007 Amisfield RKV Reserve Pinot Noir This stuff has been compared to Burgs and topped the Top 12 Central Otago Pinots in Australian Gourmet Traveller WINE, as judged by Bob Campbell MW. I fell in love with the entry level 2007 Pinot and when I saw this, I had to buy it.
Cellar quickly filling up again. hmm......

RKV= rocky knoll vineyard
Am in NZ and tried this hulking over ripe dry red- not my cup of tea- we gave it away- no hint of burgundy here- more Spanish to me
I would rate Schubert Block B or Schubert marions both 2010 much more highly

Well done -- a national chain?
Coincidentally managed to pick up a half dozen rebadged '09 Dry River Syrah for $20 a couple of weeks back, which I thought was interesting ...
Have also bought the '11 Neudorf Moutere Chardonnay & Riesling, & a mixed dozen of the '12 Auburn Rieslings.
Cheers
Peter

They restocked but this time with the 'mcmassive and needs piles of time' 2007 vintage. Unfortunately at $90 a bottle

Due to the prevailing climate of Austerity not much buying going on, but a couple of Pinot buys
couldn't be passed up, the cellar being a little understrength in that area;
2010 Bannock Brae "Goldfields" Central Otago PN
2010 Anne Gros Vosne-Romanee, Echezeaux "Les Loachausses" GC (Have some 09, so figured a comparison will be required some time hence)
cheers jafa

Just curious, was this via Langtons? I was close to buying from them.

No. I'm a kiwi, (Hence the "jafa" nim). Dunno nuffing about aussie auction houses.
Purchased thro' my local specialist froggy importer, and recently uplifted, a few days after arrival in country.
Had to grovel and whine for months to get a very modest allocation.
Lucky for me, this is not my first purchase from this vendor/winemaker combination.
I went to a tasting of the vendors new release (back in the day) 2004 red burgs. The 2004 A Gros Clos de Vougeot "Maupertui" GC
was outstanding. Did I buy? Nar. Immediately ordered some 2005, being a better vintage, and jumped to the head of the queue.
The Vougeot is now impossible (for me ) to get, so I've up-scaled to the Echezeaux. When I get outbid for that, I'm definitely NOT
buying the Richebourg. OK.
cheers jafa
