TN: My good run with the red burgs continues

You may have noticed of late, my red wine drinking has mainly revolved around French pinot noir. Last night another excellent bottle bit the dust, this time with a medium-rare barbequed veal loin chop under a balsamic reduction sauce served with crispy-skinned dry-baked Moroccan spuds topped with bacon pieces/caramelised onion/tasty cheese/sour cream/freshly-cracked blacked pepper with a terrific garden salad on the side.
Jean Grivot's Grand Cru Clos Vougeot from vintage 1996 poured into the riedel with an impressive rusty/ruby robe for its age, offering up delectable scents of violets, sour cherry, dark plum, damp earth, exotic mushrooms, spice and the usual pinot sap/gamy stuff hovering around the periphery. The palate is of medium weight, laden with creamy red and black fruit, integrated savoury oak, with some mushroomy earthiness appearing towards the back palate amongst the melting tannins. Thankfully the troublesome '96 red burgundy thumbprint of angular, biting acidity was not in play in this wine. In fact, the wine revealed great balance on all fronts. Finishes with rounded tannins and very good persistence. 92 points. Drink now - 2020. My last bottle.
