Hi I am new to this forum.

I have been given 2 bottles of Seaview Blackwood Fine Old Tawny Port and from information provided I think 10 or so years old.

Can anyone provide information on this port

Treasury Estate wine brand from McLaren Vale, name has been around for a while but tend to be on the lower end of the spectrum. You sometimes see older bottles at auction but mostly for novelty value as they weren't generally made to age. Probably best known for their cheap sparklers nowadays.

For example an old 71 I had on my shelf.

I should mention that Seaview has introduced a line of Italian varitals (Nebbiolo, Sangiovese, Fiano and Vermentino) that sports a very similar retro label. The were priced in the low teens if I recall and I've tried three of them and found them quite satisfactory. The nebbiolo I kept as it is supposed to be a wine to cellar.

Anyone notice the 738 ml on the label; any explanations/reasons?

738 ml refers to the metric equivalent of 1 Pint, 6 fluid ounces ( 26 fl. oz. ) which was the standard bottle size 40 years ago. 3 bottles equated to
half a gallon, and so it went. Soon after metrification, bottle size became 750ml.

Along with the (white label) Mildara Cabernet, the Redman Cab. and Wynn's black label, this was a benchmark Cabernet - brought back lovely
memories - could be bought for about $2 / bottle!

Interestingly I had a bottle of Seaview Cab Sav last xmas that was apparently from sometime in the 70's (label was mostly missing) and it was still drinking remarkably well. You just never know with some of those old wines.

Totally agree, had a 78 Wolf Blass Hermitage just recently and it was fantastic. I was stunned how good it was.

I remember the Seaview label with fond memories. It was a 1980 Seaview Cabernet in a French restaurant in Brisbane that led me on my path into wine. Wonderful wine, great adventure.

The actual winery cellar door in McLaren Vale still operates serving a good selection of Treasury Estate wines.
