2002 Scarpantoni Block 3 Shiraz
A great return to form for this label, and a simply lovely wine in the style of both Scarpantoni, and McLaren Vale. Full on wine, purple red with a full throttle nose of plum, pepper, hints of coffee and chocolate, spice and much more. Like so many 2002's this wine is chock full of fruit with a beautiful core in the middle of the palate, finishing with fine tannins, on a long liqueur plum and chocolate tinged finish. A rush back to form for this wine, just loved it!!
Enough from me, come on regulars and lurkers, let's read your tasting note, be it one sentence or a page.

Gavin, I agree, probably the best of this line since the 96 vintage, definitely better structure, less chunky and tarry than the 98 and much better than the disappointing 2001.

My favourite in the Scarpantoni line-up last month was the 2002 Cabernet Sauvignion (formery known as the Blue Tongue). It really stood out from most of the Cabernets on the Vales trip with its rich chocolate, spice and earthy fruit, and none of the gamey/cowshed characters common in the others. A huge improvement over the 2001 Blue Tongue.
Cheers,
Ian

Actually Ian,
I agree, its not quite available yet here, still selling the 2001 at retail through the distributors. When released it will be one I seek to promote also.
