Decanting time for 1994 Coonawarra

Post by Guest »

Hi there all,

I have a few Coonawarra Cabernets that have hit the ten years of age so I am planning on opening them soon.

I am wondering how long I should decant them for before serving. They are generally middle rung type wines - Rosemount Show Reserve, Lindemans St George, Wynns BL & Mildara.

Any thoughts,

Thanks

Chris

I know nothing
but I would rather let it evolve in the glass and improve than decant and watch it fall over.
Grange = decant
but the ones you mention are not exactly monsters

I'm inclined to agree (but I admit to only having recently tasted the Wynns from your list) - doesn't need to be any more than half an hour before drinking, I would think.
cheers,
Graeme

Hi Chris,

Personally, I like to let the wine envolve in the glass if it is not a monster wine like Hill of Grace, Grange, Run rig ...etc.

I will only decant it if there is quite a lof of sediment. It is a different kind of experience to taste the wine as it envolves in the glass.

cheers
Rob
