TN 1991 Lindeman's St George & 1993 Cullen's Cabernet Me

No AC in the beach house, juggled the wines a bit in the fridge, obtained the desired temp' without too much bruising.
1991 Lindeman's St George Cabernet Sauvignon: Red-Purple, no bricking, just a loss of youthful vibrancy. An earthy & red currant nose evolves in the decanter into distinct liquered blackcurrant, cedarwood and coffee aromas. The palate is medium weight and carries on from the nose, sweet blackfruits predominant. The finish is long in acid, with the tannins apparent in a very drying finish and carrying mature cabernet flavours with the aftertaste.
I feel the wine is not far off being dominated by tertiary flavours. Holding on but at it's peak.
Very good wine. I enjoy a relatively understated style of Coonawarra cabernet sauvignon, consumed in the 7 to 10 year time frame.
1993 Cullen's Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot: Red-purple with slight bricking at the edges. Pleasant vegetal aromas, with fine berry fruit and gaminess more apparent over time. Pristine red berries with cedar undertones from the palate. Unusually spiciness adds to the complexity of the palate. The wine is medium to full bodied, with good texture but not the silky smooth mouthfeel of later vintages. The long finish is completed with slightly puckering tannin. Lasting flavours-vegetal and red fruits.
An elegant Cullens from a cooler vintage. Excellant wine but not a patch on the outstanding vintages of the early to mid 90's. I prefer this wine to the 92. I will also go on a limb to suggest the wine is peaking and will plateau for a good distance-certainly without the longevity of other Cullens.
I have been purchasing Cullens since the early 90's. Every bottle I have had so far would suggest a practice with which I will continue.
