Hi Alan,

Good prompting on glassware: it's likely I will suggest fellow wine obsessives bring some glassware. We haven't moved all our wine nor glasses to Melb yet. I'll advise closer to time. (Been here 5 months; the rest of our 'stuff' comes August.) Given this is an informal evening - and not a full on tasting - do you think one Champagne glass and two fine-glasses per person for other wines (dry white/red; dessert wines)?

However, a wild card is if 1-2 more wine obsessives emerge from the Eureka Building, and the combined stock of Riedel and similar is enough. (It's likely the Caterer will not possess elite quality glassware, but I will check.)

I'll advise everyone more than a week in advance about arrangements. Note: apart from proximity (200 metres) to Flinders St station, there is a reliable taxi rank straight outside the building and lots of public carparking - if there's a designated driver available.

Cheers,

John

I'll have to keep an eye on these Melbourne Offline threads. If we weren't off down to Airey's Inlet this weekend (Friday to Monday) then I'd be inviting myself and Ros along like a shot!

What a lovely idea - who's keeping the tasting notes? Informally, of course!

Hi Guys
I don't post much these days but browse by for a read every week or two and I'm interested in meeting other wine lovers in real life. Unfortunately this weekend is no good but I'm certainly interested in future events.
Regards Andy

Well Burgster, we must have hit submit at almost the same moment. (Mine hasn't landed as I type.)

It was great: 20 enthusiastic wine lovers had a fun night. Audience included one consultant wine maker and two French young-wine-makers experiencing a sojourn down under. Good food, chef and a waiter and $55 a head. Great value. Threw the last out at around 1am.

Safe to say the Melbourne Fine Wine Enthusiasts Group is up and running. As my other post said, I hope Mark extracts the tasting notes from the young French wine maker who was taking them. But the main point was that we found the company and the combination of wines very promising for regular ongoing events.

Warm regards,

John
