2001 Tin Shed Single Wire Shiraz, Barossa Valley (cork): Medium to dark blood red. The first whiff lets rip with a burst of raspberries, mint/wintergreen, both red and black liquorice, hints of sous bois, smoked deli meats and a little tomato, more than a little like a fortified shiraz at times. An earthy entry leads to a sweet, medium-weight palate full of cherries and black liquorice, the tannins very fine and chalky, leading to a very long, fine finish of mint, white pepper & tobacco, even an enticing hint of bacon. It would be easy to mistake this as something much cooler than the Barossa, at times like Heathcote with its green/porty notes without the alcohol.

Sorry Mike, I haven't tried the 2002 for a few years now.

I do have a couple of bottles around the place - if I don't look at one this year, it will probably happen next year on its 10th anniversary.

Cheers,
Ian

Did you like it ... wasn't sure as the reference to fortified shiraz suggest you didn't but I'm not sure?
